Katsu plays an older Stick from my Brazilian ironwood production and tunes both string groups in 4ths going in the normal guitar direction of pitch.

Listen to his playing guitar-like chordal positions with his left hand and fluent Stick-like melodic improvisatioins with his right hand, I get the strong impression of a jazz guitarist's approach to tapping. He plays very lightly and soulfully while cradling his Stick.

Hearing him play clean, unadorned jazz melody lines accompanied by guitar styled chords and vamps, I am struck with the interwoven intimacy of both elements - a jazz guitarist's dream.

Katsu has an artist's approach to The Stick, complete with the personal transformation that envelopes him during performance. He is a professional recording artist and also works extensively as the producer for the music and multimedia. He is a 1986 graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Emmett Chapman. STICK ENTERPRISES, INC.

There is a deceptive simplicity to the music of Katsu. It is relaxed and spare, but also lush and intricate. His Stick is tuned like two guitars, with a pronounced jazz-guitar tone on the melody strings. His phrases cascade on top of each other, rolling over precise and harmonically deep left-hand chords and bass lines. These melodies return to my head long after I've stopped listening to the record, with his orignial composition, "Sussex" being the most prominent. If you were to convince John Abercrombie to play The Stick, this is what you might expect to hear. Beautiful music.
